2021 Awards Judges

Lynn D. Pratt

Lynn D. Pratt is a professional artist and signature member in the American Watercolor Society, Vermont and North East Watercolor Societies.
Lynn paints in a photorealistic style which she adopted from her background in architecture and her love for detail and perfectionist nature shows in her paintings.
She is an award winning artist, demonstrator, juror and watercolor instructor and showcases her work in solo shows, international exhibitions and galleries. She has been featured on television and print including Splash, Artscope and The Artists Magazine.
Lynn loves teaching watercolor and finds inspiration from sharing her fondness of the medium with others.

Joanna Barnum

Joanna Barnum uses watercolor to simultaneously express universal emotional states and the unique spirits of her portrait subjects. She balances experimental, abstract use of media with realism. Joanna earned a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She is a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society and serves on the board of the Baltimore Watercolor Society. Her work has been exhibited with NASA Goddard, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Rehs Contemporary, Abend Gallery, IX Gallery, the American Watercolor Society, and the “Splash” series. Her work recently joined the collection of Ten Percent Happier. Joanna teaches her approach to watercolor nationally, and has written demo articles for Daniel Smith. She lives in Maryland with her husband and their greyhound.

Xi Guo

Xi Guo, Signature member of American Watercolor Society and National Watercolor Society, was born in Shanghai, China. She earned her BFA in oil painting from Shanghai Normal University and her MFA from Savannah College of Art and Design, and majored in Photography. Xi started to focus on painting with watercolor about nine years ago and soon became an international award-winning artist. Her articles and paintings have been featured in the International Artist Magazine, the Art of Watercolor Magazine and Watercolor Artists Magazine. Through her sentimental style and sophisticated skill, Xi tells her obsession of the beauty of the lifecycle by watercolor. 

Ekaterina Sava-Ziuzina

Ekaterina Sava (Ziuzina) was born in Novorgudok, Belarus. Today Ekaterina is a renowned watercolourist within the art world. She uses her great skill of subtlety and representation within all her many diverse subjects. Particularly in her detailed paintings of flowers, which always show a great sense of passion and understanding. One of her great strengths lies in the capacity she has of creating an amazing transparency in her still life and life paintings. Ekaterina Sava graduated from the Belarusian National Technical University in 2012, majoring in architecture. She is currently head of the Watercolour Society of Belarus. Since 2012 Ekaterina Ziuzina has successfully exhibited in major watercolour exhibitions around the world, including Turkey, China, France, Thailand, Italy, Mexico, The USA, India and Europe.

Laurie Goldstein-Warren

Laurie has always had a love for the arts.  She has been painting watercolors for over 20 years.  Her work has been widely exhibited across the United States and around the world.  She has been published in Splash 13, 14 and 18 and 21and several times in Watercolor Artist and Art of Watercolour magazines.  Her work earned her the High Winds Medal at the 150th Anniversary Exhibition of the American Watercolor Society.  She now teaches and juries exhibitions around the country.  In 2021, she will be traveling to England to demo and exhibit at the International Watercolour Masters Exhibition.

Agnieszka Midera

Agnieszka Midera was born and studied architecture in Lodz, Poland. During last years of her studies teaching younger students drawing and watercolor. After finishing studies moved to Spain, where was working as an architect and landscape designer, painting sporadically as a hobby. For the last two years has been devoting only to painting watercolor and won numerous awards in national and international contests (Mexico, Malaysia, Italy, USA). She is passionate for watercolor as a clean, spontaneous, fast and unpredictable medium with gorgeous results that permits a ‘marriage’ between a wide range of superb quality papers and textures and fascinating glowing and vibrant colors, pigments and its granulations.

Elke Memmler

Elke is a watercolorist by passion. In the years of her artistic education she has learned and lived many techniques. In the end, however, the medium watercolor remained because it brings the greatest challenge and at the same time the greatest fulfillment. She tries to convey her knowledge and her passion as a lecturer and she shows her paintings internationally in exhibitions and wants to pass on her joy of color according to her motto: ‘color is my life-my life is colorful’. Elke devotes herself to flower painting in a manner that she herself calls watercolor expressionism. She is a signature member of the national watercolor society (NWS), the Deutsche Aquarellgesellschaft (DAG) and a member of International Masters of Watercolor Alliance (IMWA).

Julia Barminova

Since 2012 Julia works in watercolor technique, combining the classical school with her own exclusive methods.
She is inspired by trips to the fishing villages and the largest port cities of America, Europe and Russia, by each and every picture from her travels. Julia has begun her most famous series of watercolors “Islands in the Stream”, dedicated to the play of light and color on the water surface and to the structure and configuration of the ships, boats and yachts. She paints evocative images of port cities where she has been to. She is constantly holding different workshops, demo classes and presentations all over the world.

Brittney Tough

Canadian Artist Brittney Tough is an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC). She is well known for her vibrant paintings depicting textiles and objects.
Brittney is an international award winning artist who has exhibited work across Canada and the United States. Her work was published in Southwest Art Magazine’s feature article 21 Under 31, The Artist’s Magazine, Watercolour Artist and the Splash hardcover series of the best in contemporary watercolour. Brittney has shown in local, national and international exhibitions and received numerous awards in these competitions. Brittney received a Fine Arts Degree in Painting from Alberta University of the Arts in 2007. She has been teaching art for over 10 years and continues to expand her practice internationally.
